EHS Specialist

Our client is a prominent provider of biologics services with global customers in the biopharmaceutical and healthcare industries and is looking for a EHS Specialist to join their team in a 12 Month contract (initially).

Acting as a key member who will oversee Environmental Health and Safety, ensuring compliance, and driving improvements in occupational safety, environmental controls, and waste management. Reporting to the EHS Lead, your responsibilities include:

– Facilitating the establishment of an EHS management system to obtain ISO14001 & 45001 accreditation for the site.
– Driving the implementation of an effective EHS risk assessment process, ensuring proper control measures.
– Managing compliance for environmental licenses and permits, supporting regulatory inspections, audits, and EPA reporting.
– Cultivating a proactive EHS culture, guiding event investigations, and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
– Coordinating procurement, maintenance of safety equipment, and developing PPE management processes.
– Supporting waste management compliance and improving processes continually.
– Identifying training needs, contributing to EHS training programs, and delivering necessary training.
– Performing all duties aligned with GMP requirements, SOPs, and controlled documents.
– Leading the site’s Emergency Response and high-risk work activities.
– Overseeing statutory compliance, supporting regulator audits, and liaising with external EHS agencies.


– Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, and/or Health & Safety.
– Postgraduate qualification in Health & Safety, with IOSH membership being desirable.
– 5 years +’ experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety within manufacturing or process industries.
– Previous start-up or Biological Industrial experience is beneficial.
– Proficiency in leading Root Cause investigations and managing EHS systems (e.g., ISO14001 or ISO 45001).
– Strong written and verbal communication skills.
– Ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
– Collaborative approach with technical staff in a fast-paced environment.
– Effective time management, organization, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Preferred experience

– Prior exposure to Regulatory Authorities like Irish Water, H.S.A, and EPA.
– Strong familiarity with EHS management systems, legislation, and IED/GHG/GMO requirements.
– Implementing EHS Management Systems, training, and coaching for compliance.
