The Role

The Process Engineer is responsible for leading a system design team on Biopharma and Life Science projects. Systems can include product production and distribution of high purity gases and chemicals, upstream and downstream biologics processing, small molecule synthesis, fill/finish, and specialty chemicals, and high purity water, waste treatment, and clean and support utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supports development of concepts, basis of design, process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, piping and equipment plans, details, specifications, cost, quality, and schedule, bid evaluations, and submittal reviews for Process Systems
  • Works with a team of engineers and/or designers to create and document designs fulfilling project design scope consistent with industry-accepted practice as well as client-preferred standards, with minimal supervision, to meet current Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines
  • Develops system design from Concept Phase through Construction Documents
  • Contributes to Process Knowledge Centre via documenting lessons learned, completing CIP assignments from system experts, and use of information developed by others in process discipline
  • Mentors and trains junior staff

Expertise

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biomanufacturing, or related field required
  • 2- 4 years of experience
  • Experience in one core Process Discipline workgroups on one large (multiple engineers and designers on the team) and one small (designer(s) only) project
  • Prior experience in Pharma/ Life Science projects ideally with consulting engineering firm /EPCM
  • Experience in BIM/3D design platforms
  • Experience working within a team environment
  • Understanding of of core Process Systems used in Pharmaceutical/ Life Science projects
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards applicable for process system design and specifications
  • Good fundamental understanding of cGMP design guidelines as issued by FDA/MHRA etc
  • Good time management skills, strong work ethic and attention to details
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a strong team player with an ability to build effective working relationships with individuals, department leads, and client representatives
  • Energetic and self-motivated
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff
