Site Setting Out Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Site Setting Out Engineer to join a large-scale residential development project. Reporting directly to the Site Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the precise setting out and surveying of construction works, ensuring all activities are delivered in line with design specifications, quality standards, and programme requirements. The role will involve working as part of a site-based engineering team.

This role may also involve working across other sites within the Leinster region.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out setting out of all elements of the works, including foundations, drainage, roads,

structures, housing units

• Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical submittals

• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with design tolerances and quality

standards

• Operate surveying equipment (Total Station, GPS, laser levels) to ensure accuracy of

works

• Collaborate with site management, subcontractors, and design teams to coordinate works

• Maintain records of setting out data, as-built surveys, and site measurements

• Review drawings, plans, and quantities for accuracy and identify any discrepancies

• Assist with quality control processes and inspection of works

• Work closely with Health & Safety teams to ensure safe execution of works

• Ensure compliance with Irish building regulations and standards

• Collaborate and support existing site-based engineers and junior staff when required

Requirements:

• 5–10 years’ experience in a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer role

• Demonstrate experience on large-scale residential or mixed-use developments

• Solid understand of construction methods, sequencing, and coordination

• Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in all aspects of work

• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

• Capable of working independently and as part of a site team

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in the use of Total Station and GPS equipment (e.g. Leica, Trimble)

• Experience with AutoCAD or similar software

• Strong understanding of surveying principles and site geometry

• Experience producing as-built drawings and reports

Required Qualifications:

• A Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related

discipline

• Additional training or certification in setting out / surveying practices

• Valid Safe Pass (essential)

Desirable:

• Previous experience working with main contractors on large-scale residential projects in Ireland

• Familiarity with Irish building regulations, standards, and compliance requirements

• Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineering staff
